Did you ever stop to wonder why
Everything has to die?
Standing by the sink
Or lying in your bed
You take a moment to think
When the thought reaches your head
The evergreen trees sway
The green boughs will stay
But every cell
With every blink
With every sigh
With every wink
With every cry
In the very end,
Everything will die
They said breathing underwater was impossible
And this facsimile of life is infallible
But through the continuous waves of pain
With not a thing to gain
the world
Keeps
On
Spinning
A hand on your shoulder
A friend
A sister
A mother
A father
The soul of the dog who was lost
When the nearby mountains were still topped with frost
A gentle touch
(Though it seems not much)
Pulls you from this repose in thought
And assures you that though the time will arrive
When you are but a cosmic astronaut
If you take a breath and dive
And rise from beneath the darkness blue
You'll soon find that spring was always waiting for you
